
‘Soundings’ Contemporary Dance Masterclass

Dancers and those interested in movement are invited Join contemporary dance artist and choreographer Maya Carroll for a one-day movement masterclass exploring themes from Emma Critchley’s Soundings exhibition, showing at Quay Arts from Sat 11 Oct to Fri 19 Dec.
This workshop is for anyone aged 16 and over with an interest in movement, embodiment, and creative exploration of dance interpretation. You do not need any prior dance experience—just a curiosity about the body and an openness to try something new.
Through guided improvisation, embodied research, and imaginative tasks, participants will dive into deep-sea-inspired movement themes, engaging physically and creatively with the ideas behind Soundings.

Meet your Tutor:
Maya Carroll
Maya graduated from NSCD in 2019, obtaining a first class BPA (Hons) degree and a distinction for her MA in the postgraduate performance company, Verve. As a professional, Maya has collaborated with an eclectic mix of creatives including Lost Dog Dance, Extended Play Dance, Ruby Portus, Matthew Robinson and Liam Francis among others. She has also worked as a movement director for Andrea Heaton, as a collaborator for Emma Critchley’s Soundings project and as a guest dancer for National Dance Company Wales’ PULSE|PWYLS tour in 2023 and 2024
