Chinese Thread Books
Workshop for creating a Chinese thread book.
Chinese Thread Books or Zhen Xian Bao is a traditional folk art practised by women in remote areas of southwest China. They are books made of folded paper traditionally used to store embroidery threads and other small items. The book has many interlocking boxes that open and fold down flat.
In this workshop we will make a Zhen Xian Bao that is an intriguing combination of a bound book, origami folds, and 15 compartmented boxes to store all kinds of treasures. Our books will be made with a choice of beautiful handmade plain and decorated papers.
What tools and equipment do I need?

Kae Carlstedt-Duke
Kae runs a commercial bindery and letterpress studio under the name of The Lazy Dog Press where she carries out book repairs and new binding commissions. Her skills have been developed over 25 years and she has trained in UK, America and Italy. As well as bookbinding, Kae is committed to keeping the art of letterpress printing alive and creates contemporary prints using traditional techniques on historical printing presses and this work has been exhibited at home and abroad. Kae is an enthusiastic and encouraging teacher and loves passing on her skills, she teaches letterpress and bookbinding courses on the Island.
