The Quay's theatre is named after Anthony Minghella, the Island-born Oscar-winning director who opened it in 1997. Its varied programme of live events includes professional touring comedy, world music, folk, jazz, blues, small-scale theatre, children's shows and a cultural cinema programme.
Technical Specs
The seating is retractable to give a studio space. The floor is wooden sprung; a Harlequin dance floor (grey or black) is available, approx. 6 x 10m. The stage has a white cyclorama and black full width tabs at the rear, and adjustable side masking. There is limited wing space, however a store room stage left can be used as extra wing space. Smoking on stage is permitted as part of the performance if adequate fire precautions are taken. Smoke effects can be used within the theatre auditorium.
Stage Area
With the raked seating unit fully extended there are 115 seats and approx 5m stage depth (to back tabs). An extra front row of floor-level seats is normally present, increasing audience capacity to 134.
