Quay Arts’ Youth Offer: Waves

Quay Arts is one of 13 organisations awarded funding by the Isle of Wight Council to deliver youth provision. Quay Arts, in partnership with Vectis Radio, is offering young people aged  11 – 19 years (up to 25 years with additional needs) a wide variety of creative arts activities as well as the opportunity to learn about radio.

Gallery Response Projects

Small groups of young people referred through island agencies and schools visit an exhibition in one of our galleries and go on to work alongside artists to create their own exhibition in response.

In February 2015 a group of young carers worked with artists Hannah George and Ian Whitmore to produce their own exhibition in response to Jenny Clayden’s exhibition in The West Gallery, Figured Out. Click here to learn more about the Figured Out response project.

In November 2015, students from St Catherine’s School, worked with artist Joanna Kori over the course of two weeks to create new artworks influenced by works from The Drawing Process exhibition in The West Gallery.

They explored different drawing styles and paper casting methods and each picked their favourite piece to inspire a three dimensional form.

Michelle Tilling, Sixth Form Year One Tutor & Art and Photography Teacher from St Catherine’s School said,

‘This has been a wonderful experience for the students at St Catherine’s school. They have had the time to explore their ideas and gain access to the rich and varied work in the Drawing Process exhibition over five days at the gallery and learnt how to work with new materials under the expert guidance of local artist Joanna Kori.  The experience will add a wonderful depth to their GCSE coursework and hopefully inspire them to pursue their interest in the arts further. They have all thoroughly enjoyed every minute.”
