Everyone has something to learn from a visit to Quay Arts

Quay Arts is an educational resource that provides a unique opportunity for groups to learn in a stimulating gallery environment. We welcome visits from schools, colleges, community groups and other organisations, and can provide tours and artist-led workshops related to our current exhibitions.

School trips warmly welcomed

Self-directed visits to our galleries are always welcome, but please let us know about your visit in advance to make sure we are not running a school workshop in the gallery at the same time. You will find details of current and forthcoming exhibitions here. If you have any further questions, please contact our Exhibitions Organiser, Georgia Newman on 01983 824160.

Artist Educators available by the hour

Workshops exploring any of the exhibition themes in our galleries can be delivered by our team of Artist Educators. Sessions for schools and community groups can be held at Quay Arts, Jubilee Stores or in school and a typical two-hour workshop costs £100 depending on group size and materials. A whole day costs around £200 plus materials.

Young Quay for sixth formers

Young Quay combines our successful Studio Quay and Young Curators initiatives and is free to sixth formers interested in pursuing further or higher education leading to a career in the arts. The course comprises practical, studio-based sessions with an introduction to the curatorial process, leading up to our next Young Island Open. If you like the sound of Young Quay and would like to apply, email us today for further details.

Show your working in our schools’ gallery

Schools can apply to work with an artist, at the Centre or in school, to co-create an exhibition ‘in response’ to work displayed in the Learning Curve Gallery. To produce a show with typically involves five to seven days’ work with an artist and costs from £750 to £1000. The exhibition will remain in the Clayden Gallery for six to nine weeks. For an idea about what your students could produce, come and see what’s on at the moment.

Find out how to win Arts Awards

Quay Arts is a registered Arts Award Centre to Bronze and Silver level. All our Gallery Educators are qualified Arts Award Advisors. If you are interested in an Arts Award and would like to know more, please contact us by email.

Hire the workshop at Jubilee Stores

Just up/down(!) river, you will find Jubilee Stores. Pottery, jewellery, a general workshop with printmaking facilities, a shiny new kiln and six private artists’ studios all share this vibrant, creative, inspiring, work-filled space.

Many of our classes and workshops are held here, and the general workshop is available for hire (£10 per hour for schools). Professional artist tutors are also available to deliver tailor-made workshops to suit your requirements (with a small fee of £25 per hour).
