Acoustic Originals
Monday 22 March 2010
8pm - Doors 7pm - Bar Open - Free Entry
Acoustic Originals is back on Monday 22 March 8pm; a showcase for quality songwriting, with the chance to enjoy the best from the Island and beyond.
Following on from the success of February’s awe-inspiring performance, we have another bumper line-up for March featuring David Hughes, an Island based singer-songwriter, whose music ranges from folk-rock to jazz; he details a varied and eclectic list of influences including John Martyn, Ry Cooder, James Taylor, Bing Crosby, and Frank Zappa!
Also, Poppy & Jake of PoPandJay - Poppy and Jake, who live on the Island, say, "when we are live it is just Jake on guitar and Poppy singing, but that’s the way we like it, we are individual and love what we do. We want to go to music college and study music even further, hopefully we'll get a band together properly one day, and hope to get somewhere, but for now, this is it, and we are loving it!"
Plus Glen Todd, who has developed a passion for guitar and song writing - expect an entertaining mix of home grown lyrics and original ballads for everyone.
Rachel Day and Rafe Spencer combine heartfelt lyrics and finger-picked acoustic guitar with resonant double bass. Inspired by life’s ups and downs, Rachel’s songs are insightful flights of her imagination and an intimate reflection of her take on the world.
Mark Thompson performs pop and folk with some grooves and riffs thrown in. He plays bass, guitar, piano and sings. He is an experienced musician and has performed with Chris Jagger, Matt Kellett, guitarist for Johnny Thunders, and JC Grimshaw. He delivers energetic, powerful vocals filled with sincerity.
Weatherkings featuring Mike Rodriguez on acoustic guitar and harmonica with Rafe Spencer on double bass, are an island-based acoustic/funk/jazz/Latin jam band with quirky, original songs - foot-tappingly fabulous.
Mick Smith, Centre Director and host for the evening, is an uber-talented jazz pianist and song-writer whose melodies lull you into a sense of musical security whilst wittily-woven lyrics land your mind squarely outside the box.
8pm - Doors open 7pm Entry is Free, so come along, have a beer or a glass of wine and enjoy this popular evening.
