About Quay Arts
Quay Arts is Situated within an ex brewery on the banks of the River Medina and is the leading art Gallery on the Isle of Wight. Quay Arts supports the development and display of new work by visual artists, and is one of the first National Lottery capital projects, funded through Arts Council England. The Michael West Gallery was designed by architect Tony Fretton (Camden Arts Centre, Lisson Gallery, ArtSway) and presents work that is of national and international interest.

Quay Arts Open Exhibition Brief
Contemporary painting, drawing and Print on the theme of ‘Location’
Location: Site, place, position, spot, setting, scene.
We are looking for 2D and 3D drawing, painting and print pieces, exploring aspects of the above. The selectors will be looking for works that have a contemporary feel, which reflect contemporary themes and concerns, as well as works that are produced using traditional themes and methods.
Quay Arts’ aim is to select work that reflects the diversity of drawing, painting and print within current artistic practices, and to produce an exhibition that can be enjoyed by audiences from the South of England and across the UK.

The Prize
One artist will be selected from Open08 for a solo exhibition at Quay Arts. The solo exhibition will include curatorial input, mentoring and full marketing support.
How to Enter
Please read the following instructions and conditions carefully:
Please note that all submission and collection dates are final. No work can be stored longer than indicated. Signing the application indicates your acceptance of these conditions and agreement to deliver/ collect work on the dates below. All application forms MUST be signed and dated.
Submission information
Quay Arts will only accept entrants who submit work by slide, photo, CD or DVD
Deadline Friday 22 August
You may submit up to 3 pieces of work. You may submit by post/hand delivery:slide, photo, CD or DVD .
Please label all cds, etc., clearly with your name and title of your work
There will be a fee of £5 per submitted piece.
Please send cheques with submission
Any submissions without payment will not be considered.
All cheques should be made payable to ‘The Steve Ross Foundation’
Please indicate clearly the size, medium and wholesale price of each piece.
(Quay Arts adds 40% commission to your suggested sale price)
All work submitted must be for sale.
Please include an SAE for the return of your slides, etc., post selection.
UNSELECTED ENTRIES WITHOUT AN SAE WILL BE DISPOSED OF AFTER 10th SEPTEMBER
• Quay Arts cannot accept responsibility for cds, etc., lost in the post.
Please note that there is a size restriction of 2 metres square on 2D work and 1 meter square on 3D.

Sale of Work:
All submissions will be for sale, with Quay Arts adding 40% commission to your suggested sale price .
Insurance:
• Work will be insured on Quay Arts premises only.
• Your suggested sale price will act as the insurance value of your work.

Selected work:
All work MUST be delivered with mirror plates. MIRROR PLATES MUST BE ATTACHED Clip frames are not acceptable (i.e. glass and hardboard frames with metal clips).
ALL WORK, WHERE APPROPRIATE, MUST BE PROPERLY FRAMED AND GLAZED TO A HIGH STANDARD WHEN DELIVERED OR COLLECTED BY QUAY ARTS FOR EXHIBITION.

Delivery of work
If you are selected, you will need to choose one of the following options for the delivery of your work.

Portsmouth: Artspace Studios Monday 29th September 9am - 6pm
Southampton: Red Funnel car ferry terminal, Parcel Office, Saturday 27th
September 9 am– 6 pm
Dates for collection of work at the end of the exhibition will be confirmed in writing by 10th September. Quay arts will not accept responsibility for uncollected work.
