Making WAVES for Island Youth
Tuesday 12 May, 2015
Quay Arts is one of 13 organisations awarded funding by the Isle of Wight Council to deliver youth provision.
Quay Arts, in partnership with Vectis Radio, is offering young people aged 11 – 19 years (up to 25 years with additional needs) a wide variety of creative arts activities as well as the opportunity to learn about radio.
There are a wide range of creative workshops led by island artists on offer including pottery, collage, book art and playing the ukulele. In consultation with young people on the island, Quay Arts is aiming to deliver workshops offering arts activities that are of interest and that will engage young people as well as teach them new skills.
As well as this, groups of young people referred by schools or island agencies can take part in gallery response projects. This involves a small group of young people visiting an exhibition in one of our galleries before working alongside Island artists to create their own exhibition in response. In February a group of young carers worked with artists Hannah George and Ian Whitmore to produce their own exhibition in The Learning Curve Gallery in response to Jenny Clayden’s exhibition in The West Gallery, Figured Out.
Quay Arts’ partner, Vectis Radio, is offering the Four Ps Programme which is designed to introduce young people introduce young people to the basic and essential skills relating to Radio Presentation, Production, Promotion and Podcasting.
