Welcome to Quay Arts 10th annual Summer School programme, an opportunity for you to spend an intensive few days discovering or rediscovering the joy of painting, drawing or making, across a broad choice of courses.

Following the success of the last two summers' portraiture workshops, Nick again leads this year's extended course where the face of the model is projected onto a large screen, allowing the students to see the subject in close detail and work on a large scale. Day one will be drawing, days two and three painting in acrylics with two different painting styles. Suitable for all levels of ability.

Some materials will be provided but participants will need to bring: a set of acrylic paints, a set of oil pastels or pastels, assorted brushes including a 1 inch decorator's brush, an old plate or palette for paint mixing, a jar for water and an overall or apron.

We are celebrating Quay Arts 10th Summer School by offering our course students an exciting opportunity to showcase the work they create, in a special exhibition in our Rope Store Gallery. This experimental exhibition, curated by our Exhibitions Organiser, will grow and evolve throughout August as each Summer School course comes to an end. The opportunity to exhibit is entirely optional for students.

Nick Martin is a portrait painter who has been working to commission since his Artist-in-Residency at the Royal Pavilion in Brighton in 1983. He has exhibited across the UK and most recently had his work accepted to the Royal Society of Portraiture in the Mall Galleries in London in 2011. He teaches at the Isle of Wight College and runs his own life class in Newport. He worked at the University of Roehampton, Froebel College running an Arts for Public Space degree course until 2006. He exhibited at the West Gallery in 2009 at Quay Arts. www.wix.com/nmartin2001/nick-martin
